Workers' Comp Injuries in Columbia, MD

At UMG Urgent Care in Columbia, MD, we know that a workplace injury can turn your world upside down. It doesn't just affect your health, but it also disrupts your ability to support yourself and your family. That's where workers' comp steps in to help you get back on your feet. Workers' compensation, often called workers' comp, is a type of insurance that covers medical expenses and lost wages for employees who suffer work-related injuries. The purpose of workers' compensation is to make sure that employees have access to the medical care they need and to support them financially while they are unable to work. In Maryland, workers' comp is required for most employers, meaning help is available for injured workers when they need it most. Contact our Columbia, MD practice to find out about your rights after a workplace injury.

If you're injured on the job, it's important to know the right steps to take, such as:

  • Report the injury: Always report your workplace injury to your supervisor as soon as possible. This helps create an official record of the incident and ensures your employer knows about your injury.
  • Seek medical attention: Prompt medical attention is vital. At UMG Urgent Care, we treat many types of workers' compensation injuries. Our healthcare team understands the challenges of work-related injuries and can give you the treatment you need.
  • File a workers' comp claim: Once you have reported the incident, you will need to file workers' comp paperwork. This ensures that your treatment and lost wages are covered. We can help guide you through the medical portion of filing workers' comp, making the process as smooth as possible.
  • Follow up with your doctor: Continuing with follow-up care is essential for a full recovery. Make sure you attend all appointments and follow any treatment recommendations.

Workers' compensation offers several key benefits that ensure injured employees receive the support they need while recovering from a workplace injury. These benefits are designed to provide medical care, financial support, and peace of mind during a challenging time. At UMG Urgent Care, we help you make the most of these benefits so that you can focus on getting better. Some of the main benefits of workers' comp include:

  • Medical expenses covered
  • Wage replacement
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Disability benefits
  • Death benefits for families
  • Legal protection

Workplace injuries can happen in many forms and at any time. Some common types of workplace injuries that we see at UMG Urgent Care include:

  • Sprains and strains: These are among the most common work-related injuries. They often occur during the lifting of heavy objects, repetitive motions, or falls.
  • Cuts and lacerations: Whether from handling tools or machinery, cuts and lacerations can range from minor to severe and may require stitches.
  • Fractures and broken bones: Slips, trips, and falls can result in broken bones, a common type of workers' compensation injury.
  • Burns: Burns can occur in various workplace settings, particularly in kitchens, factories, or other places that involve chemicals or heat.
  • Repetitive stress injuries: Long-term repetitive activities can cause injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, which may be eligible for workers' comp.
  • Head and back injuries: Falls and accidents can lead to serious head injuries or back injuries that require immediate medical care.

Visit date: September 4, 2025Office: Clean and quiet. It’s not overstimulating with tv noise or loud patients. Although, I was the only patient in the waiting area.Wait time: I was greeted and immediately attended to. I filled out the standard urgent care forms (online) asking for medical history and insurance information. It took me a little while to complete due to my symptoms and it was a little lengthy. I didn’t keep track of the exact minutes but I was seen immediately after completing the forms.Vitals: The medical assistant that took my vitals was thorough and friendly. Most MA’s skip height and weight and just ask; however this MA checked both.Provider: After the MA’s did a preliminary evaluation, the provider came in. There was barely any wait. She looked my test results, asked me questions and did her own thorough assessment of my current symptoms. She put me at ease, assuring me that my condition wasn’t as bad as initially presumed. I was grateful. Her bedside manners were exceptional. Rare in this field. You can tell she was genuine and truly compassionate about my health. She advised me to go home immediately and to contact her office if I had any concerns about my symptoms.Overall: I am very satisfied and grateful for this staff’s help. This office is about 15-20 minutes from my home but worth the travel all non-emergency medical care. Thank you Nurse Stephanie, APRN.

What a pleasant surprise! I had to bring my daughter in after the first day of school. We both anticipated a long wait and crowded waiting room. Instead, we were greeted in a modern, new lobby with just one other person. After completing required paperwork, we were taken back quickly to an examination room. The doctor was amazing with my daughter and provided great care with a lovely bedside manner. Overall great customer experience!
