How Is A Wound Treated?
The treatment of a wound depends on its type, size, and severity, and at UMG Urgent Care, we offer comprehensive wound care treatment for all kinds of injuries, from minor cuts to severe cases, such as deep lacerations. Our approach includes cleaning the wound thoroughly, using appropriate dressings, and performing wound infection treatment if needed to manage bacteria. Open wound treatment may involve applying dressings to keep the area clean while deep laceration treatment might require sutures to ensure proper healing and minimize scarring. Abscesses, such as skin abscesses, are drained to relieve discomfort, and special attention is given to puncture wounds to remove debris and reduce infection risk. Our wound care team ensures that each patient receives the best care to support healing, alleviate pain, and avoid complications.
What Are the Benefits of Proper Wound Care?
At UMG Urgent Care, we provide expert wound care treatment for various types of wounds, ensuring faster healing and infection prevention. Our treatments provide a number of benefits, including:
- Prevention of infection: One key benefit of wound care is the prevention of infection. A wound care doctor knows how to clean and care for a wound to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria entering the body.
- Faster healing: It is crucial to know what helps wounds heal faster. With the right treatments, such as appropriate dressings and possible sutures, wounds close and regenerate more efficiently, minimizing healing time.
- Pain management: Wound care also effectively addresses pain. Proper cleaning and treatment can reduce discomfort while specialized medications can further manage pain.
- Reduced scarring: The correct open wound treatment reduces the risk of visible scars. Stitches, glue, or special bandages all help close the wound and encourage smooth healing.
- Minimized complications: Infected wound treatment and other interventions, especially for more severe injuries, help reduce the risk of severe complications, such as cellulitis or systemic infections.
- Personalized care plans: At UMG Urgent Care, we provide personalized plans for the specific needs of your injury, ensuring that you know how to treat a puncture wound, a laceration, or an abscess properly with follow-up instructions as needed to promote full healing.
UMG Urgent Care Reviews
This is a brand new facility, and everything is spotless. Bianca, the receptionist, and nurse assistant is courteous and very helpful. I was taken care of right away. Bianca checked my vitals, and cleaned the cut I had on my finger. She also gave me a tetanus shot that was totally pain free! I was amazed! Then I saw Stephanie, the nurse practitioner. She is also very nice and calm. She explained well to me what to do to care for my cut. She was very reassuring. She took really good care of my wound. This was a very good experience!
The staff is so welcoming! Super patient and kind! Quick and efficient but take care of your needs! So thankful for this team being so close to where I live 🫶🏼
I usually dread going to urgent care due to long waits and so-so service, but this place completely changed my expectations!I visited today for something I thought was urgent and was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and professional everything was. From the check-in with Bianca to the care I received from Dr. Stephanie, everyone was courteous, thorough, and truly caring. This is not your typical urgent care — it’s a gem. I’m so glad I found it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for top-notch care and a kind, efficient team.
Brought my daughter here on a Sunday after a harrowing experience Friday at an ENT office in Laurel. Someone described the facility as more like a spa than an urgent care and I agree!! Even better, the staff is incredible. We were greeted professionally and checked in promptly by Odette. She was friendly and efficient. Dr. Wurapa helps Dr. Stephanie Arsenault on weekend and he was nothing short of incredible. He put my already-anxious daughter at immediate ease, discussing colleges and her future plans. He walked us through each step of the treatment and made sure she was comfortable along the way. Even though it isn’t as close as many others, I will return here any and every time we have an urgent care need. They also have a dentist office and PT on staff. The facility is maintained impeccably. Highly recommend!!Thanks to UMG for making this stressful weekend a distant memory!!
My wife had dizziness and nausea all day and they gave her a shot and she felt better immediately. Very nice, caring staff and nice clean facilities. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

When Should I See A Doctor for Wound Care?
You may be a candidate for professional wound care if you have a wound that's not healing as expected, shows signs of infection, or is more serious than what can be managed at home. If your wound is deep, large, or caused by a puncture, or if you notice redness, swelling, or discharge, it's crucial to seek medical attention. Our team at UMG Urgent Care can provide the care needed to prevent infection, promote healing, and minimize scarring. If you're unsure whether your wound requires medical care, it's always best to err on the side of caution and consult with a healthcare professional.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my wound is infected?
An infected wound often shows several clear signs that can help you identify the issue early. Common symptoms include increased redness, warmth around the wound, swelling that worsens over time, and the presence of pus or unusual drainage. In some cases, the wound may become more painful or develop a fever. If any of these symptoms occur, it's crucial to seek care at UMG Urgent Care promptly. Early intervention can help prevent the infection from spreading and ensure that the wound heals properly.
How long does it take for a wound to heal?
Healing times vary based on the severity of the wound. Minor cuts usually heal in a few days, while deeper wounds can take weeks. Proper care, including regular cleaning and protection, helps speed up the healing process.
Will my wound leave a scar?
Scarring is a natural part of the healing process, but the extent of scarring depends on the type and size of the wound. We can provide aftercare advice to minimize scarring and help the wound heal more smoothly. If you're concerned about scarring, speak with us about your options during your follow-up visit.
